Concept Design Proposal DRAFT 1

  1. Title - IM3D
  2. The Big Idea – New way to connect with friends
  3. Target member – Existing IM users, especially younger people(below 30)
  4. Value Proposition – They expect to have new and interesting thing which is also convinient. They like to have their own unique identity.
  5. World Design Feature Categories (in outline format, describe each verbally in functional detail and use visual mockup examples where words fail):
    1. Self – 3D Avatar that can customized in a style of Anime/Cartoon
    2. Place – Every users owns customizable room with different themes. Group room is also available
    3. Purpose – To communicate and connect with friends in a more interesting and effective way beside text
    4. Fun Things To Do – Chat, games, builds, pet
    5. Society – Very private world, no society involved  available to add friends through email address and even different IM service user as long as they are a member
  6. World Design Plan – Visual Designs (in construction)
  7. Interface Components – Interfaces including a contact list window and a room window (detail in construction)
  8. Out-World Components –  Official web site, member page, group page, online inventory, online shop

Virtual World Design Concepts

Ideation 1.   3D Messenger (name uncertain)




  • A hybrid of 2D user interface and 3D conversation environment ( A general messenger interface with conversation window in the form of 3D environment)
  • Users can customize their avatar and their room (conversation space)
  • Users can dress the clothes they want and chat at the place they want (store available)
  • All conversation will be in 3D environment and your avatar will talk for you (and express the emoticon)
  • Interaction with the avatar and the environment is also possible
  • Simple and conventional
  • Linking accounts (Universal Login)
  • Got experience point by staying online and chat
  • Higher ranks get gift


Ideation 2.  Fantasy World Builder (name uncertain)

  • 2D environment (derivation can be in different forms)
  • Wikipedia (for actual world editing) +Forum (discussion and publishing)
  • Under a shared and established weltanschauung, users are trying to design, construct and perfect the imaginary world
  • Idea comes form Cthulhu Mythos
  • The level of the user decided how much they can effect the world. (User at king rank can edit the world at kingdom's level) 
  • Users can raise their level by participation and financial supporting
  • A platform to submit music, novels, drawing, design and other works related to the World
  • Admins and moderator regulate the world and resolve the conflict on the setting


Ideation 3. The World (name uncertain)

  • Hybrid of 2D and 3D environment (forms and interface varied from the districts)
  • Integrated Online Identity in the world (Universal)
  • Users have their own unique avatar
  • Combing all the function including social networking, gaming, shopping,education, entertainment, and financing in one. 
  • Different function are locating at different district and may have different user HUD  (ex. Living District: for social networking and users can customizing their house and avatar)
  • In a form of virtual city (variation depending on your living location )
  • Different organization and business can set their virtual identity in The World (banks can set their banks in the world)

SECOND LIFE EXPERIMENT PLAN FINAL (REVISED)

   1. Experiment Title


Human Puzzle


   2. Scenario


To enjoy real life game in a virtual world way.


   3. Mechanics


Everybody has to pick one of boxes provided (picked a number from 1- 12).
People would have to wear them in the front (attached it to the stomach) , and solve the puzzle by moving the avatar.
We would see how long it takes.


   4. SL Location

Moderator : Oversee the whole event, record the event


Solver: Participants that solve the puzzle.






   6. Role Assignments


Moderator : Helen (Event Creator) , Grant (Survey creator), and Jane (Documenter)


Solver: The whole class

Boxes that contain puzzle pieces with numbers would be distributed at the location.




   8. Participant Preparation


Avatar control including moving and flying
Object control including attaching object and editing
Team work

People would have to wear them in the front, and solve the puzzle by moving the avatar.

Second Life Project Thought

I am looking forward to do some game-related experiment. Instead of computer games, it maybe interesting to bring real life group games into Second Life. For now I am not sure what I can do. I am looking for people that are also interesting in it or other game-related experiment.
